Samarkand International Airport reached its historical maximum in 2022 and served 493,417 passengers, which was 2.6% or 12,406 passengers more than in the record year of 2019. At the same time, the largest growth occurred in the segment of international transportation (+6%).

The increase in passenger traffic is due to both an increase in the efficiency of leading carriers and the attraction of new partners: in 2022, 8 new airlines launched flights from Samarkand airport at once, including seven foreign airlines.

The main growth in passenger traffic occurred on international routes: 445,106 passengers were served on these flights. The most popular flights in 2022 were from Samarkand to Moscow, Istanbul, St. Petersburg, Dubai and Almaty.

The volume of traffic on domestic airlines amounted to 48,311 passengers in 2022, and Tashkent became the most popular domestic destination.

The national carrier of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan Airways, retained first place in passenger traffic at Samarkand airport with a share of 34.9%, amounting to 172,203 passengers. In 2022, the carrier opened three domestic routes from Samarkand: to Andijan, Fergana and Namangan.

Based on the results of 2022, Samarkand International Airport has expanded its route network, now flights are operated to 4 domestic and 10 international destinations, of which Dubai, Baku and Abu Dhabi were opened for the first time in the history of Samarkand.
